SportExcel has been supporting the Junior Development of sports under its wing since the last 28 years. This year, 12 national bodies pledges to hold a series of torunaments in their circuit to give a chance for the junior athletes to sharpen their skills and to put them into tournament testing. The signing ceremony was held at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam.
Yang Mulia Tunku Tan Sri Imran, in his speech reminded the sports associations to produce the quality and not the quantity top athletes. As for the athletes, the Tunku also reminded the athletes the 2 evils of top performance and tournament, that is the temptation of performance enhancing drugs (doping) and match fixing. Yang Mulia Tunku stressed to the athlete that it is simply not worth the risk and would certainly be caught.
On the other hand, YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, the Deputy Minister of the Youth & Sports Ministry who was the guest of honour gave speech on the Ministry’s upcoming policy to be tabled out in the upcoming cabinet paper. To simply put, the Ministry aims to make sports as an attractive career for athletes during their peak and after their retirement from competitive tournaments.
The event then proceeded to present some 35 young athletes from various sporting disciplines for their performance in 2018 with a funding of RM 1,500.00 and RM 1,000.00. Junior athletes of age 13 and above received RM 1,500.00 each while 12 years old and below received RM 1,000.00 each.
Though the amount is small, these athletes were nonetheless very happy as to them, it is a recognition by SportExcel and their National Sports Association.
We home many more junior will rise to the challenge and be more competitive, and to pursue sports more seriously.
