Malaysian juniors bag Asian women’s squash championship for 4th time
The national women’s junior squash team won the Asian Junior Team Championships in Chennai, India, today after defeating Hong Kong 2-0. Aira Azman put on a strong performance by defeating Wai Sze Wing 11-2, 11-9, 11-5 for the first point, and J Yasshmita delivered the second point for the win, beating Toby Tse 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7.
The four-player team, including Whitney Isabelle Wilson and Doyce Lee, who were competing in the championship for the first time, managed to extend the national team’s success to four consecutive wins, having won the title in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Malaysia put up a good fight against Pakistan, but lost 0-2 in the semi-finals of the men’s team event yesterday. Harith Daniel Jefri lost to Noor Zaman 11-13, 6-11, 6-11 while Syamiel Hayzad Shahrulhisam went down to Muhammad Ashab Irfan 4-11, 8-11, 6-11.
