Malaysia charge into World Junior Championships quarter-finals

The Malaysian girls got the job done as they made the quarter-finals of the World Junior Team Squash Championships as Group B winners in Melbourne today. The team, led by Aira Azman, outplayed Australia 3-0 in their final group match. In a 1-3-2 order of play, Aira went on first and defeated Madison Lyon 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 in 19 minutes. U. Thanussa then secured victory for Malaysia by downing Hannah Slyth 11-3, 11-7, 11-5. In the dead rubber, K. Sehveetrraa ensured the team a flawless record by whipping Erin Classen 11-4, 11-2, 11-6. “So far it’s so good for the girls although they’ll definitely have a tougher match to come in the quarter-finals,” said national coach Andrew Cross. “I think the girls are getting along together well and what’s important is that they have gotten the group stage out of the way.” Malaysia, who were runners-up in the last two editions, will face either Canada or Scotland in the quarter-finals.
