National karate team head coach Norfarhan Nordin feels that the sky is the limit for his star pupil, Lovelly Anne Robberth.
Lovelly clinched a surprise Asian Games silver medal for Malaysia in the women’s kata at the Linping Sports Centre Gymnasium today.
The Sabahan scored 39.80 points in the final while Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Kiyou Shimizu won gold after garnering 42.60 points.
Debutante Lovelly reached the final after topping Group 1 in Round 2 with 40.40 points while Shimizu topped Group 2 with 43.30.
Norfarhan said the 19-year-old Lovelly’s silver success is a good sign for Malaysian karate.
“It was an excellent result and I am satisfied with her performance.
“It was really impressive to see her winning a medal,” said Norfarhan.
“She can achieve more. This is the first step for us, and we will work for more. This is a good start for us, and for the next competition, we already have a benchmark.”
