Kaathi Gunasegar Named MIAA Golfer of the Week

After leading the Lincoln women’s golf team to a pair of championships in the span of a week, Kaathi Gunasegar was selected as the MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Week. The league office announced the honor, which was voted upon by a select panel of conference sports information directors, on Wednesday (April 10). Gunasegar won the Lincoln/William Woods Invitational, played on Monday and Tuesday (April 8-9), with a two-round total of 145, finishing five strokes ahead of the runner-up. The sophomore shot a 69 in the second round after opening with a 76 as she helped Lincoln win the team title. She also captured the Division II individual medalist honor at the National Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship last week (April 2-3) with a three-round sum of 240. Gunasegar shot scores of 78, 82 and 80 as Lincoln claimed the Division II team title at the event. By virtue of winning the individual title, Gunasegar was invited to play in the LPGA Pro-Am in Texas on April 17. Gunasegar becomes the first Lincoln player to be named MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Week since Sophia Pardalos won the award in 2013-14. Lincoln will next play in the MIAA Women’s Golf Championship, held at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Mo. on April 22-24.
