Mirabel raring to see action in first LPGA Tour event in KL next week

Teenage golfer Mirabel Ting received a timely boost to her upcoming campaign in the Maybank Championship next week after she was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Golfer of the Month of September. It is the second time in her golf career that the 19-year-old has received the accolade. The Florida State University student earned the honour in March this year. Mirabel became just the fourth player in Florida State University to win individual championships in consecutive events recently – at the Folds of Honor and the Schooner Fall Classic. She also helped the team to a second place finish at the Folds of Honor and to a third place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic.

Sarawak-born Mirabel’s scores of 67 in the first and second rounds of the Schooner Fall Classic tied her career best scores for a single round. She has carded scores of 67 five times in her career. The two wins catapulted Mirabel into the top 10 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking, where she is currently ranked ninth. “The best part of our first two tournaments of the fall is that my teammates played well and we finished in the top three in both events.”

We are all working hard to improve our games and that’s how we get better as a team,” said Mirabel, who is returning home next week to play in the Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club from Oct 24-27. Mirabel has been extended a sponsor’s invitation by Maybank along with the nation’s top-ranked lady professional Ashley Lau and Maybank’s Asean ambassador Kelly Tan. “I’m super excited to be playing my first LPGA Tour event at the Maybank Championship. “It has been a dream since I was a kid and to have it come true so soon is simply amazing. “I would just want to get out there and be able to compete with the world’s best players, learn from them that week and see where it takes me,” said the reigning Malaysia Games (Sukma) champion.
