Para bowler Abang Azhar crowned world champion

National para bowler Abang Azhar Abang Yahya added another glorious chapter to Malaysian bowling history after being crowned world champion in the men’s TPB4 singles (intellectual disability) on Tuesday. Abang Azhar dominated the men’s TPB4 singles (intellectual disability) at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park Bowling Centre, rolling an impressive total of 1,435 pins. He rolled lines of 218-242-259-246-244-226, securing victory by a 55-pin margin over South Korea’s Yun Seung Sang (1,380). Australia’s Strong Kallan claimed bronze with 1,359.

Compatriots Madzhi Mahamad Rizuan (1,235), Majeni Muhd Zul Adly (1,121), and Sazali Muhammad Hazim (1,061) finished seventh, 11th, and 16th respectively. “I didn’t expect a win. I was aiming for only top five. said Abang Azhar. “Well, it seems destined that it’s my ‘rezeki’ to become world champion today, and I’m truly delighted.” The victory was particularly meaningful for Azhar, who had already led the Malaysian quartet to a silver medal in the TPB4 team event on Monday. The success of Malaysia’s para bowling team mirrors the nation’s long-standing reputation as a powerhouse in the sport, with both para and able-bodied athletes consistently delivering outstanding performances.
