Malaysia’s Hariz Hezri and Indonesia’s Sania Talita Wahyudi lifted the boys’ and girls’ overall champion trophies at the 8th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Golf Championship. Hariz opened his campaign at the esteemed Royal Selangor Golf Club with a solid two-under 70 to take the first day lead. A second day of five-over par 77 placed him two shots behind Syed Nor Ismail (73-72) heading in the final round. “I was confident with the way I was managing my game this week, it gave me the assurance I needed to go into the last day,” said Hariz. The soon-to-be 18-year-old carded in a one-under par 71 on the final day to steer clear three shots ahead of runner-up Rizq Adam Rohizam (74-77-70). Further adrift one stroke was Kim Beom Gyu of Korea on six-over par 222 (74-76-72), followed by Aiden Kei on eight over-par 224 (79-72-73). “This win is a confidence boost for me, I had planned to win a few junior tournaments before my junior golf journey ends and I’m glad to have won this one,” he shared. In the girls’ division, Indonesia’s Sania Talita sealed a wire-to-wire victory after signing in impressive rounds of 72, 72 and 77. Sania, who also turns 18 soon later in the year, found her short game contributing to this week’s win. “My putting came in clutch, especially the first two rounds. I was sinking in putts even from off the green,” said Sania. Finishing in close second with a score of four-over par 223 (74-71-78) was Malaysia’s Wang Xin Yao, followed by Nur Batrisyia Balqis on 14-over par 233 (79-77-77).
